About Us

Bud’s Warehouse is a home improvement outlet and social enterprise of Belay Enterprises, a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Since 1994 we have sold donated building materials—cabinets, doors, flooring, appliances, lighting, hardware—at a fraction of retail, and put every dollar back into the same mission: rebuilding lives through second chance employment and job training.

But what sets us apart isn’t what’s on the shelves. It’s who’s on the floor.

Our store is staffed in large part by men and women rebuilding their lives after incarceration, homelessness, or addiction. For many of them, Bud’s is the first job they’ve held in years—and sometimes the first one where somebody believed they could do it. Every sale we make funds that work.

The Role

This is not just a retail management job. It’s a floor leadership role at the intersection of retail operations, people development, and mission.

The Store Manager directs the daily work of the floor and cashier team—a group that includes job training program participants—and is accountable for how the store runs: service standards, merchandising, stocking flow, register operations, and opening and closing. Your recommendations on hiring, discipline, and termination carry real weight in those decisions; final authority rests with the General Manager and Operations Manager, to whom this position reports.

The right person is a strong operator who is equally interested in the people doing the work. On a good day here, the store runs clean, customers leave happy, and somebody in our job training program learns a new skill valuable for their career.

How the Role Breaks Down

•Supervising, scheduling, and directing floor and cashier staff — 35%

•Coaching, training, and developing team members, including job training participants — 20%

•Overseeing merchandising, receiving, and inventory flow — 20%

•Overseeing customer service and handling escalations — 15%Reporting to the General Manager,

planning, and covering the store in the GM’s absence — 10%

This is a supervisory role first. The majority of the week is spent directing and developing other people

rather than doing the floor work yourself, though you should expect to jump in when coverage demands it.

What You’ll Do

Staff & Floor Management

•Supervise and direct floor staff throughout scheduled shifts

•Direct the work of 4+ full-time employees on every shift

•Interview candidates and make hiring, discipline, and termination recommendations that are given

particular weight (final decisions made by the General Manager / Operations Manager)

•Assist in training new employees on floor procedures and cashier/register operations

•Manage staff lunch and break timing to maintain floor and register coverage

•Serve as the on-floor point of contact for staff questions and issues

Coaching & Job Training

•Work alongside job training program participants on the floor, teaching the practical skills of retail

work—showing up on time, following procedure, serving a customer well

•Model and reinforce workplace expectations (attendance, teamwork, communication, accountability)

for staff who may be building a work history for the first time

•Give regular, specific feedback and share observations on participant progress and barriers with the

General Manager and program staff

•Recognize and celebrate milestones as participants take on greater responsibility

•Treat every shift as a training environment, not just a sales shift

Faith & Culture

•Help set the tone of the store: participate in staff devotions, prayer, and staff meetings as scheduled

•Pray with and for staff, and with customers where that is welcomed

•Live out and reinforce Belay’s core values on the floor, particularly with employees who are new to a

workplace built on them

•Represent Bud’s mission well to customers, donors, volunteers, and visiting groups

Customer Service & Customer Flow

•Monitor and manage customer traffic flow throughout the store

•Champion customer service excellence, ensuring customers’ needs are met and any issues are

resolved before they leave

•Oversee the cashier stand, ensuring accuracy and adherence to sales procedures

•Step in to assist at registers during high-volume periods as needed

Merchandising

•Manage the presentation, organization, and stocking of products on the sales floor

•Ensure merchandising standards, signage, and displays are maintained and current

•Coordinate floor resets, promotions, and seasonal displays as directed by management

Receiving & Stocking

•Manage the daily flow of incoming product from the dock to the sales floor

•Ensure accurate inventory, timely, and safe stocking, rotation, and placement of merchandise

Opening, Closing & Compliance

•Perform opening and/or closing duties as scheduled, including related security, cash handling, and

store-readiness procedures

•Ensure sales procedures are consistently followed by floor and cashier staff

•Ensure safety procedures are followed across the store and during receiving and stocking

•Support company sales initiatives and promotions as part of the broader team (not solely responsible

for sales results)

General

•Uphold store policies and company procedures

•Communicate regularly with the General Manager and Operations Manager on floor operations,

staffing input, and issues

•Perform other duties as assigned
